Foundation Year Biomedical Sciences Courses
MS in Biomedical Sciences Degree

The first year of the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences program lays the foundation for further studies by helping students develop their scientific and professional skills.

Course names and sequences are different across our three campuses but all cover the same foundational concepts and subjects, such as:

  • Biochemistry
  • Molecular biology and genetics
  • Anatomy and physiology lectures
  • Anatomy lab
  • Neuroscience

The coursework is designed to prepare students to:

  • demonstrate an advanced understanding of important fundamental concepts of the biomedical sciences (i.e., structure and function of cells and organ systems, etc.).
  • communicate scientific information in written and oral forms.
  • apply information skills to access, synthesize and interpret medical literature.
  • utilize technology to acquire information and solve problems in health sciences.

Upon successful completion of the foundation year, students may choose to pursue one of several second-year degree concentrations or elect to receive a Certificate of Graduate Study (CGS) in Biomedical Sciences. Students who meet academic success criteria may apply to the one-year accelerated master's program.

What Our Students Say

“I knew that some of the classes in the biomedical sciences program at PCOM Georgia mimicked those of the osteopathic medicine program, and I felt that they would prepare me well, not only in terms of the material, but in learning how to develop efficient study habits with a high course load.”

“The key factor in choosing the biomedical sciences program was that the curriculum revolved around integration into professional school. Looking back, attending the same lectures as first-year medical students was an immersive learning experience that has boosted my confidence and assured me of a smoother transition to medical school.”
