Georgia Chamber of Commerce regional office in Tifton.
On Monday, May 15, Georgia Campus 鈥 色中色 (GA-PCOM)
Chief Campus Officer Bryan Ginn spoke to a gathering of approximately 200 people at
the ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception for the regional office recently opened in Tifton, Georgia. A transcript of Ginn鈥檚 remarks
regarding PCOM鈥檚 intent to invest in South Georgia, pending accreditation approval,
follows:
鈥淎s one with South Georgia roots, I am proud to represent Philadelphia College of
Osteopathic Medicine in sponsoring this historic ribbon-cutting today. PCOM, with
campuses in Philadelphia and Suwanee, Georgia, is a private, not-for-profit institution
of higher education founded in 1899 and focused on education in medicine, health and
behavioral sciences. Like the Georgia Chamber, we view the South Georgia region as
economically diverse with a bright future, culturally rich in its wide range of people
and talent, and laser-focused on ensuring access to high-quality health care.
鈥淭oday, through our Suwanee campus, PCOM is proud to partner with multiple health
systems and health providers in extending medical and health sciences education to
this region and, we believe the time is right to do more.
鈥淟ast Friday, PCOM officials filed an application to the for approval to open a four-year teaching site in South Georgia. We believe this
action will create opportunities for Georgia residents and, ultimately, improve the
health of our fellow Georgians.
鈥淧ending accreditation approval, PCOM intends to locate a state-of-the-art medical
campus in Moultrie, and is working to partner with colleges in South Georgia to recruit
outstanding graduates and with health systems in the region to train our medical students
who will potentially remain in the area to practice medicine. These students will
pursue a four-year program of study in osteopathic medicine in order to become fully
licensed to practice medicine.
鈥淧COM is proud to be a partner as we all seek to improve health, and we salute the
Georgia Chamber for its bold move in establishing a permanent presence in South Georgia鈥攁n
action PCOM intends to take in the days, weeks and months to come subject to our accreditors鈥
approval.鈥
